Elementary First Aid

This course offers foundational knowledge and practical skills for providing first aid in emergency situations.   • Hands-on: Reviewing and practicing the contents of a first aid kit

Day 2: Dealing with Common Injuries

  • How to treat minor injuries: Cuts, scrapes, and abrasions
  • Managing burns: First-degree, second-degree, and third-degree burns
  • Sprains and strains: R.I.C.E. method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)
  • Handling fractures: How to immobilize broken bones before medical help arrives
  • Hands-on: Practice bandaging techniques for cuts and sprains

Day 3: Handling Medical Emergencies

  • Responding to choking: The Heimlich maneuver and back blows
  • Basic CPR for adults and children: Chest compressions and rescue breaths
  • Recognizing and responding to heart attacks and strokes
  • Managing breathing emergencies: Asthma, allergic reactions, and anaphylaxis
  • Hands-on: CPR practice using mannequins, practicing the Heimlich maneuver

Day 4: Dealing with Severe Bleeding and Shock

  • Identifying and managing severe bleeding: Direct pressure, dressing, and bandaging
  • Understanding shock and how to treat it: Symptoms and positioning
  • The role of first aid in preventing further complications from major injuries
  • Managing medical emergencies until help arrives
  • Hands-on: Applying pressure to control bleeding and elevating legs for shock

Day 5: Special Considerations and Review

  • First aid for children and infants: Special considerations for younger patients
  • Dealing with environmental emergencies: Heatstroke, hypothermia, and snake bites
  • Understanding when to seek professional medical care
  • Review and certification of skills: Simulating an emergency situation to test readiness
  • Hands-on: Review of key techniques and emergency response scenarios
